Are video games entertaining? Yes. Thus they aren't pointless.
Can the metaverse be entertaining? Apparently it can be, thus it isn't pointless by the same train of thought.
I tried Second Life twice in about 2006. No interest in revisiting the concept, but obviously it is novel to someone out there. I'll stick to games.

I wouldn't even compare the metaverse to music and art.
Anyway some =/= all. Something can be both pointless and entertaining. I'd consider some examples of music and art that are both.
