I am loving this tool. This is a great example how we can automate information flow between technical communities and foster faster response and technology iteration.

That sums up what Hacker News exactly is

A community used to drive interest in marketing ops/acquisition/IPOs up

People at HN know that very well, in fact, very often, the companies that get to front page are somewhat related to HN, very often they are investors ;)

One thing that looked a little odd is the doc asks potential contributors to familiarize themselves with a fairly convoluted guide to 'unofficial' HN features but doesn't mention or link HN's own guidelines and FAQ. But maybe it's targeted at people who've read them?

I agree. I suppose that’s a positive side effect of conducting business so openly. You’ll feel extra responsibility to set policies that are sensible not only internally but also to the general public.
