I remember being a teen in the early '90s and hating the mandatory conformity - if you didn't wear the same things or listen to the same music as your peers, you were an immediate outcast. By the end of the decade, not only could you find a peer group no matter what you wore or listened to, being too conformist wasn't considered a good thing any more.
