I make about $600/month froma software platform that a single Nationwide cleaning service uses to track there quality control forms. Been operational for years.

And I do about $1200/month running a piece of software that handles early and late fee charges for a couple large Airbnb hosts. <-- this one I actually hate, but it started with another vision and this is the service that worked. And now it's like free money and I know the hosts would just replace If I took it away.

Earlier quoted context omitted.

The catch is you need to be safe: - Where is the heat going? Are you exhausting it out the window? Are you going to burn your house down? - How are you distributing power? Are you using a PDU and a 240V 30A breaker or are you maxing out several 15A 120V lines? - Is the humidity dropping rapidly to dangerous levels, risking shock? Are you going to fry that brand new $10,000 ASIC miner because you dried out the air too…

Do you shut it down when on vacation? Or hire someone to babysit your machines when you're away?

I left it running while on vacation for a week recently, I was incredibly paranoid the entire time and I probably wouldn’t do that again.

Server and other (virtual) infrastructure management for nonprofits, lifestyle businesses, and hobby sites that have grown too big for managed hosting but don't bring in enough revenue to hire a full-time sysadmin. It's a narrow niche, but I've got the local market totally cornered. Each client pays me a monthly retainer. I keep their servers, droplets, etc. patched up and respond to any emergencies. Most of the maintenance stuff is automated, of course.

About $2K/mo, flexible but sometimes unpredictable schedule (log4j vuln on a Friday? Seriously?), friendly clientele, 6 years strong and going.

No way I'm telling you people. The business I'm in is centuries old. Even still, I'd need to be a special kind of stupid to advertise that there's easy money niches of it to a bunch of people who have discretionary income. Edit: There's wood involved, but not that kind of wood.

Prostitution, got it.

I maintain the FreeBSD/EC2 platform and am currently receiving $1373/month in donations: https://www.patreon.com/cperciva

Not exactly a side project though -- more of a spinoff project, since I got started on it because Tarsnap needed FreeBSD support in EC2. Most of my recent work has been far beyond what Tarsnap needed though.

I started a news crawler service which makes > $500/mo. https://currentsapi.services/

I started this service during my last undergad year, improving the pipeline really helps me a lot in understanding crawler, schema designs which you don't learn from anywhere. This experience also helps me land my first job as well.

I mine cryptocurrency and make about $110/day. I have two L3++s, an AvalonMiner 1246, six RTX 3080s, an RTX 3090 and a couple older cards. It more than pays for the mortgage, and after electricity (residential rate) my profit is about $100/day. I also have the GPUs in a grow tent (designed for growing marijuana) with an 8 inch in-line fan hooked up to the supply of my home’s HVAC system. I’m heating my whole house wi…

That’s a $30,000 rig at least. So 300 days of mining before you just break even. I’m sure that in 300 days it will only be able to mine a fraction of what it does now due to increasing difficulty. I’m not seeing how this truly works out.

I make $3-5k a month from my golf betting algorithm website: https://www.golfforecast.co.uk About half of the income is from algorithm profits and half from subscription fees. Feedback/questions appreciated!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of background do you have to have to develop something like this?

These sorts of things blow my mind, and I have no idea where one would start.

I don't know if I can even call it a side-project any more. I stopped working professionally 3 years ago. Bought an e-commerce business that was making ~$2k/mo profit and ran it on the side while I had my DevOps job. That project has now turned into ~$30k/mo profit, and I've bought two more e-com businesses that average ~$10k/mo between the two - these are early and I expect them to scale up once I smooth out a few b…

If you don’t mind me asking, what are the e-commerce sites? Also, how does one get into such a business? Were you interested in this space beforehand or did you simply acquire a business that looked promising?

Seconding the interest in this. Some research showed that SoulCeramics and ZenConcessions are two of the commenter's businesses, but I would love to hear details on how he found them, decided to buy them, and then dealt with operating them. Selling popcorn machines and pottery kilns, such fascinating niches to become wealthy off of.
