A customer should be informed when taking delivery of the vehicle at the latest and have a choice in rejecting the delivery. Anything else reeks of dubious ethics. This is not a simple mistake. A properly run company like GM or Ford? Tesla is a unique company and offers a unique products. It is totally reasonable if you don't want to buy one, but for many of us, it is the best deal and the best car we have ever owned.
That move is a proof of poor and low practices. I don't like Tesla but I am surprised since I was putting them at "Apple" league, but it seems like they little to no considerations for their customer. Maybe the numbers of cars/customers concerned by the shortage issue is so low that they decided to do so and hopped this will go unnoticed.
