To compare from the "other side" (though I'm not actually a Democrat), this is how I feel when I see the people I vote for screech propagandized speaking points for anti-gun stances. There are 2A Democrats out there that have to tolerate the insane (to them) things their representatives support.
Only insane in the context of recent decades. The vast bulk of jurisprudence (centuries) supported a much more restrictive reading of 2A, and changing that was a concerted effort of conservative groups (starting in the ~1980s), particularly out of more conservative law schools such as those in Tennessee.
This was pretty well documented at the time if you would like to read about it[0].

Colbert's joke was based on a comment from a Bush staffer concerning the "reality-based community" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality-based_community):

It's actually a poignant, forward-thinking point about the malleability of "reality" and "facts" under empire, but predictably the third-way neolibs that still dominate the party failed to grasp that and first made a joke out of it, and then out of themselves as it was realized.

#345It's not that much different than what happened to weev 10 years ago--a leaky url which was secured in the sense that it was unlinked and 'secret' (one had to guess the user's id).
The legal conclusion was simple: weev did not have authorization to access those URLs.
The implication being that you are not free to type whatever you want into the URL bar. If I make something accessible by URL accidentally, I haven't given you permission to access that URL.

Back to the elephant in the room: journalism was there to determine facts, reality. Outside narratives, facts exist, sometimes clear. It's like in judicial matters: advocatus dei and advocatus diaboli are there to attain to truth in a dialectic manner, proposed and implemented to exhaust the thinkable reasons involved - never there you meet the lunacy of "serving the client's interest". The disconnection to facts you indicate would be a horrible disease.
