Yes, apple's marketing materials claim 400 GB/s, while the 6900 XT is 512 GB/s. This is very easily Googled. While memory bandwidth isn't everything, it is the major bottleneck in most graphics pipelines. An x86 cpu with 3200 MHz memory has about 40 GB/s of bandwidth, which more or less makes high end integrated graphics impossible.

Ah, I misunderstood your comment. When you said it was competitive with the 6900 XT I thought you were talking about GPU performance in general, not just in terms of memory bandwidth.

This is about the processors, not the laptops, so commenting on the chips instead. They look great, but they look like they're the M1 design, just more of it. Which is plenty for a laptop! But it'll be interesting to see what they'll do for their desktops. Most of the additional chip area went into more GPUs and special-purpose video codec hardware. It's "just" two more cores than the vanilla M1, and some of the effi…

Does the M1 Pro/Max support running/building x86 Docker images using x86 hardware emulation? As as developer, this is the feature I've missed the most after having used my M1 MacBook Air for about a year.

docker buildx should be able to handle it, no?

Same, I tend to get everything in 32GB but more and more often I'm going over that and having things slow down. I've also nuked an SSD in a 16GB MBP due to incredibly high swap activity. It would make no sense for me to buy another 32GB machine if I want it to last five years.

Don’t run Chrome and Slack at the same time :)

For me, think about that memory bandwidth. No other CPU comes even close. A Ryzen 5950X can only transfer about 43GB/s. This thing promises 400GB/s on the highest-end model.

The AMD chips in the PS5 and new XBox reach 448GB/s and 326GB/s bandwith respectively with their unified memory.

Not entirely true. Xbox Series X has two different memory bandwidths. The first 10GB has 560GB/s and the last 6GB has only 336GB/s.
