#4Don't most companies have these types of conversations? I haven't been at one yet that hasn't. Good startups look at their competitors and decide to clone some, and change other, features.
Were we not excited here yesterday on HN, that Cloudflare is cloning and undercutting AWS S3?

#8I'm not really sure I see the issue here, though I'm no expert. Isn't this what competitors do? If Facebook failed because Pinterest and WhatsApp overtook them, the comments would be full of "well, they stood pat while WhatsApp innovated". I think it would be neglectful not to see what works and attempt to replicate that success.
