Medical Science & Computing (contracted to NIH/NIAID) | Back-end and devops engineers | Rockville, MD (REMOTE possible, US only) | VISA | Full-time

I'm the tech lead who's building out a new software team to build a new "hybrid" (cloud and on-prem) data management and visualization platform to support new "cryo" electronmicroscopes (https://cryoem.slac.stanford.edu/what-is-cryo-em) alongside existing electron microscopes and light microscopes. This new software platform will be both challenging (because of the huge amount of data produced by the new microscopes) and exciting (because of the near-atomic level of resolution that can be achieved). Medical Science & Computing (https://mscweb.com/) is a federal contractor that provides software development support to a few federal agencies. The most prominent agency and the one that the company has supported for the longest (going on 15 years) is the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Within NIH, I'm part of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biosciences Branch (https://www.niaid.nih.gov/research/bcbb-about), which basically writes software to support scientists at NIAID (the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases). This position is absolutely not the typical "job placement" or "staffing agency" kind of situation. You are effectively a normal, core staff member of the branch and will work closely with and alongside federal employees and other contractors.

MSC does sponsor H1B and Green Card for foreign nationals. We are exempt from the H1B cap so you won't have to go through the H1B lottery.
