> The problem with old.reddit.com (as opposed to teddit) is that numerous links on Reddit will redirect you to the New experience. Absent DNS hacks, you'll find yourself consistently frustrated by this. I have found that keeping the "Use new Reddit as my default experience" box unchecked on reddit.com/prefs results in almost never being redirected to the "new" site. The only exception is when someone uploaded a galle…

Are you using "old.reddit.com" to visit, or "www.reddit.com" and relying on JS for the old-site experience? I'm doing the latter (in large part so that I post old.reddit.com links), and I can assure you It Does Not Work As Expected Or Desired.

uh... I go to www.reddit.com not old.reddit.com - I don't actively do anything at all, other than change a flag in my user settings. Looking at old.reddit.com in an incognito window looks the exact same as what i see at www.reddit.com. Firefox, ublock origin, no other addons. On mobile and desktop.

in what sense? Seems like it's been the same for ~8yrs, other than having to re-set the flag in settings now and again. Like I said, the only time i've seen an issue is the odd time someone posts an image gallery - I can't see it in oldreddit style unless I click on comments.

Im just curious, what are the motivations for a company to make this move? It seems like a death sentence to me but I cant think of any examples off-hand.

Thanks for the considered responses, this was all super illuminating! And thanks for the hot tip on Firefox containers too :~I

I created a free data exchange product between Twitter and Facebook in the form of a chrome extension https://2fb.me

It’s interesting to see that this protocol product may be the only way to see tweets freely between two walled gardens today.

But I guess it should have been predicted when function and good UX took a back seat to profitability years ago.

This could probably have one of the single greatest global impacts on mental health ever take by anyone/anything/any-organization ever. If users respond in the negative.

Even a 5% reduction in social media exposure could have the potential to move the global suicide rate significantly.

If this is your takeaway you’re following toxic people. I have learned a lot and changed my mind on several issues just from Twitter discourse.

Or they clicked on a trending topic on the wrong day. Or they read an article about one twitter group bashing another twitter group and clicked on one of the tweets. There's no path from toxic Twitter to constructive Twitter, but there are thousands of paths the other way. Which can only mean that toxic twitter is where Twitter wants its users, so it seems like you're using twitter wrong in their view.

That would imply that Twitter has total control about such paths; I find it hard to believe.
