It's bad on Mac, it's bad on Windows. What the hell did they use to develop and test this where it looked good?

looks fine to me on linux, surprisingly. though i doubt that the designers tested on a linux box with a tweaked fontconfig edit: here's a comparison with helvetica https://i.imgur.com/BJlHQhf.gif

Are you actually getting Chirp? Seems some Linux users are not. I'm on Chrome on Ubuntu 20 and I do get Chirp, and it looks quite bad IMO.

Simple flush to the left margin versus justified text, which was how Twitter aligns text.

It's extremely similar to Roboto, which is how it was rendered for me before the change. So it seems almost like nothing happened.

The difference is quite obvious, at least on Windows. Roboto is narrower, better hinted, has fewer embellishments, got a better consistency ("rhythm") and as a result it's much easier on the eyes. Here, side by side - https://i.imgur.com/tXokROR.png - Roboto at the top, Chirp at the bottom.

Agreed. You can't blame this on testing only on Macs, because it's bad on my Mac too.

Looks good on my S10.
