I think your fundamental error is in the fact that you think that a private company (and market competition) can fix these issues. It seems that many people on HN are just waiting for the new Savior company, that will magically have incentives to fight for them instead of making money. There are absolutely lots of regulations around fire near gas stations, why did you think that gas station owners made those rules? They have to follow them or they will lose their permit and get shut down.

Does this apply to google workspace (paying)customers too? If so google is actually scanning what is supposed to be private information.

To be fair he never used the word "useless". That's the title submitted by the person who uploaded that. There could be a bit of confirmation bias here. It's as easy for someone with little trust in their government to point to this and say officials are flip-flopping on the information released, as it is for others to interpret it as Fauci saying "don't expect a mask to fully protect you".
