Companies might still be reluctant to hire across language or time zone boundaries. It might be explicit, but more likely it'll be less conscious resistance among interviewers and attrition among the "odd ones out" themselves. The result's practically the same. And if the bulk of the team is in US/Pacific, then same time zone doesn't include many other countries.
I think the job market is going to soften, but not totally collapse. Some jobs will shift to other countries for much less money (as has been going on for decades BTW). Some will shift outside SV but still within the US for slightly less money.

The AMA is a very effective lobbying group which has made it difficult for people to decrease doctors' wages by advocating restrictions on the number of doctors, making it extremely difficult to convert foreign credentials in medicine into US ones, and so on. They also are largely responsible for killing the earliest efforts at a national healthcare system on the theory that a single payer would use its negotiating power to reduce payments to medical providers.

#130I'm in SV. What a horrible take. Globalization of tech jobs is net positive for the whole world including the US. We're all gonna have more thing made cheaper and faster, isn't that great? I can see how you can argue it's not the case with some industries, e.g steel and coal (see poverty in Appalachia), because it's hurting those communities. But this is tech, we already have it way too easy. I say let's double down…

That will definitely hinder the progress of local companies who will miss out on good talent.
