It might not because the tunnel won't necessarily produce conditions representative of flight[0]. This is because the method they use will alter the air chemistry and thermochemical effects matter for hypersonic flow. The temperatures can get so hot that diatomic molecules can dissociate and air can even become ionized.

Wow, during the red scare days the US deported a rocket scientist - Tsien Hsue-she - back to China where he bootstrapped their entire rocket program. Did not know that. Wonder where they would be today if the US decided to keep him in cal tech.

I don't think it would matter much. Someone else would have lead the program, there were never a scarcity of talented Chinese scientists/engineers.

Which is ironic as usa benefited a lot from scientists who fled germany in the lead up to ww2.
