China is more able and likely to 'take over Taiwan' since probably any point in history. It's a stated strategic objective and there's no reason to think it won't happen.

In real life, people sometimes commit suicide in what's called "suicide by cop", they attack police so the police kill them. The idea that we or China can't have a commander in chief who commits suicide by war, or otherwise behaves irresponsibly and takes the rest of us with them, strikes me as a tad optimistic.

You could say the same for the US. What checks and balances are going to protect you from a mentally unstable, delusional president who lost an election months ago, is about to be removed from power, and just this morning decided to play a game of nuclear football?

What evidence do you have that similar checks do not exist in China?

It's also worth mentioning that any nuclear submarine commander in the UK can, at any time, order the launch of their submarine's ICBMs. They do not physically require any authentication from Westminster to launch. I'm assuming the same is the case for US, and Russian submarines.

My point is that if you already successfully operate several seismically stable fabs and you're building a new one that's gonna cost you tens of billions of dollars anyway, there must be other factors that are higher on your requirements list.

Fabs deal with earthquakes by stopping. They'd rather not stop.

The constant "invasion, invasion, invasion" whenever Taiwan is mentioned somewhere on the internet also plays into China's hand.

It's not Caterpillar doing this, though. It's Bullitt Group. They are the same people behind the Kodak phone. Thier whole business model basically revolves around licensing big brands that you have heard of, and making mobile devices with that brand stamped on it.

China takes the 'long view' - long enough that it supercedes any populist cycle. Over 30 years of 'soft occupation' and incremental erosion of rights, thery'll be nothing left of Taiwan.

Elderly Gen Z-ers will look back at their tweets from childhood and wonder.

California is one of the most economically richest places on earth, and I only say that from the point of view of a world traveler and without bias.

What I don't understand is how you think world traveler gives any credit or support for your stance. First the stronger point is made through evidence and the weaker point is made through reputation. Second of all, a "world traveler" is not really much of a reputable status that lends any additional weight to your thesis.
