Until it doesn't? I am far from an expert (so please correct me if I'm wrong), but isn't this like saying "the dam can stop any amount of water" ?

They're talking only about currently worrying variants, not all future possible ones.

They don't mention the B.1.617 variant.

Sure, but if there are already 5 major "variants of concern" in 1.5 years, why are we declaring a premature victory against the variants?

We aren’t “declaring victory”, premature or otherwise, over anything; the results of research that are important in understanding the current, evolving landscape are being published.

I was referring to the headline, which very much has a "mission accomplished" spin to it:

>Pfizer Covid vaccine protects against worrying coronavirus variants

It reads as: "Don't be worried, Pfizer has the variant problem solved."

I hate headlines that try to tell me how I should feel about something. It seems like it would be equally informative without the “worrying”.

Epidemiologists use the term "variants of concern", so maybe "concerning" would have been a better word. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/vari...

There are hundreds if not thousands of variants by now. The ones that matter are the ones that spread more easily and/or make people sicker, aka the "worrying" ones.
