#322Am I the only one annoyed with the expression "all but"? To me it sounds like the complete opposite. "All but confirms" to me sounds like they're "doing everything else than confirming" / "all other things except confirming".
It means ~"Comes so close to confirming that it does everything up to it, except actually confirming" -- the actual confirmation is all that's missing. Once I realised that, it stopped annoying me.
