#2There really is no reason to couple two functions (displaying images, selecting and playing content) in a single device. It's an antipattern for resilient and serviceable systems.

#7I'm expecting these days are numbered though; some combination of ethernet-over-HDMI, Amazon Sidewalk, built-in 5G antennas, or just straight up refusing to work without a network connection feels like it's just a couple years away.

#8Did “Dumb” TVs really need defending? Seems like if anything we should be convinced instead why Smart TVs are a good idea.

#10At least for the time being it's still possible to keep TVs off the internet and bypass this garbage. I've got a 2020 Sony and have never seen an ad on it.
