It's similar in speed on a per function basis, but the main difference is that we figure out which ones need to be updated and do them all concurrently. Plus handle any failures and retry them.
I'm working with Lambda with some great devs but we are all spending way to much time figuring our how AWS is structured and managed instead of actually writing code.
