I like the concept of declaring bankruptcy on chats. I've done this on email more times than I'd like to admit.

Exchange rules configured through Outlook are omnipresent . Sieve might be supported by many email clients, but is pretty much nonexistent in corporate email. Actually, if someone points me to one hosted email provider that does support it, I'd be glad - I was wondering about trying it out but nobody supports it.
I recently switched some of my email addresses to Migadu. I haven't tested it yet but they apparently offer Sieve support.

Talk was not naturally archived in the past, but I would not assume that today. There is no longer anything that is an intimate object, pretty much anything can have a microphone and some type of wireless connection. Is your desk phone at the office listening to you even though it's on the hook? Technically it can. What about your smart TV?

The sheer volume of information that Chat holds makes it hard to search. The noise to signal ratio is higher than on channels with lower throughout (e.g. documentation products). Chat doesn't let you send one message and craft it over time, like a mission statement, proposal, or architecture guide. It has a fundamentally different character.
And some chats are worse than others. Teams does this so poorly it brings my battlestation to its knees trying to do simple text search.

Dang. I never thought of email like that, but I wonder if email+git+UI would help for complex conversations.
You should look at the git mailing list. They actually send patches via email using the git format-patch and git send-email commands and have complex discussions around some of the patches.

#237Teams trying to enforce conversation threading in a (semi-)recent update pretty much put a halt to me and my coworkers using Teams for anything but voice for our morning sprints. Trying to follow even slow conversations in Teams is just way too much work, we instead chat on Telegram where chat works, you know, normally.
Luckily we were never in the habit of tracking anything through chat, we stick to our issue tracker, but I can absolutely imagine the frustration we'd have felt after that change had we relied more heavily on chat.

That’s the whole point of not worrying about these lines without sufficient thought.
Being able to query the past instanteously via live chats is vital.
I see live transcripts via iMessage and live chats as a huge benefit — your thoughts in real time, basically, shared externally without energy wasted verbally.
One of my biggest regrets is not pro-actively hitting aim support right before mass account deletion post mortem acquisition by Verizon.
Imagine scrolling back in time to your high school chats— one can easily use that context to go back in time like Mac OS time machine.
Put all of those time stamps in whatever format (t, chat service, message) on a visual calendar and you’ll be able to do much more with your data. Including attachments.

My hope is most of my youthful chats have been forever destroyed. It's not a season I'd like to revisit.
