If you are a liberal / progressive and your outlook is medium to long-term, this is the last thing you want Apple to do.

Denying people their voice makes them more dangerous. Let's give them a means to vent out / express themselves. Violent subgroups / individuals can be addressed, but please don't deny the __entire__ opposition their voice. The last thing you want is for the conservative movement to be hosted on a Chinese or Russian platform.

It is really time to bridge the divide and come together. That's not to say adopt a soft approach against the violent / revolutionary elements.

If 48% of these United States voted for Trump, only a handful of those are violent.

As victors can we show some compassion, and more important, in the coming four years, how can we win over that other half of the country, who are for the most part non-violent lawful people.

You're proposing to remove a very large, very alienated group's last public channel to express themselves peacefully. This risks further escalation. This is compounded with the stark contrast to how the protests were handled this summer.

I do agree with you, though keep in mind that the previous version of the web worked great when it was run by engineers (that cared about silly things like freedom of speech) and not valueless executives.

I just mean I think we will start seeing more interest/investment in things like progressive web apps that aren’t beholden to centralized platforms but feel like native mobile apps.

Parler has been hosting TONS of incitements to violence and seems to refuse to take it down (or is at least extremely slow to). I don't see why it's particularly crazy that Apple would want to avoid the liability from that. FWIW, I think alternatives to Twitter, like Parler and Mastodon, are a good idea, but Parler acts like they have a fair takedown process when it's evident that it is not working particularly well.

It's like, before the_donald was banned: at least there was a grownup in the room reining it in some and it could be seen. But if you wholesale kick out the extremists, they make their own happy place where there's nothing to slow them down at all.

(And then, in turn, you end up playing wack-a-mole with those cesspools, asking Apple/Google to deplatform them, etc.)

I think Apple has the right to ban the app from the store. They own their whole ecosystem and that's perfectly fine with me. At the same time people have the right to protest to put pressure on Apple not to ban it. In the end Apple should be able to do whatever they please, and if people dislike it enough they'll switch to other ecosystems. It's absurd for regulators to try to run Apple "better" than Apple itself.

Why would you want "guardans of the internet", if anything you "need" those to protect it from the governments, everything else is bloat.

I just wish being removed from the Apple app store wasn't certain death.

Yeah it's a private platform they can do what they want but they're basically a monopoly too.

you're making the incorrect assumption that both sides of the discourse have valid positions.

1. what is a non-racist person supposed to say to a racist person to change their views?

2. why is it the non-racist person's responsibility to talk to the racist person? in the words of office space, "why should I change? he's the one who sucks."
