You're proposing to remove a very large, very alienated group's last public channel to express themselves peacefully. This risks further escalation. This is compounded with the stark contrast to how the protests were handled this summer.

What was the insurrection? Some protestors got into the Capitol building. Don't make it out like it's more than it is.

I know! NPR is calling it a coop attempt. Like really, those idiots were going to take over the capitol and just like stay there and run things.

Idk if simply used by the wrong people is the right way to decide if we should ban a tool. If foreign spies use firefox and thunderbird should we fine mozilla? They might have used nike shoes to walk there after getting a flyer in the mail printed on a cannon printer using an apple computer.. etc etc.

We should be careful with sweeping generalizations, especially when in this case, it may rob us of the opportunity to achieve reconciliation via frank discussions with people of opposing views.

Most people that voted for Donald Trump are not Nazis. Most people on Parler are not Nazis. Most of the protests over the past several years were not violent.

I do agree with you, though keep in mind that the previous version of the web worked great when it was run by engineers (that cared about silly things like freedom of speech) and not valueless executives.

Engineers built every one of these services, or people who enjoy thinking of themselves as engineers.

Further escalation beyond storming the capitol? Becuase that's what tolerance has resulted in.

Facebook makes far too much money showing ads to their "more conservative user base" to do anything more than token gestures to stop racism and calls to violence.
