There's an amusing irony in the downvotes in this thread. The champions of free-speech angry that Apple might ban a platform for speech that ultimately led to an attempted insurrection? These champions of free speech seem to be agressively trying to silence anybody happy about this news.

You're proposing to remove a very large, very alienated group's last public channel to express themselves peacefully. This risks further escalation. This is compounded with the stark contrast to how the protests were handled this summer.

What was the insurrection? Some protestors got into the Capitol building. Don't make it out like it's more than it is.

Protestors, armed with guns and pipe bombs carrying zip ties as well. Who were seeking to stop the certification of the electoral college vote. Yes, insurrection.

You're comparing banning a company from the App store with having a comment show up in a lighter color.

With zip ties and molotov cocktails, and nearby, pipe bombs.

Earlier quoted context omitted.

I really hope this is sarcasm.

Parler is incapable and unwilling to moderate nazis, white supremacists and terrorists. Worse, they thrive on those users. First they came for the nazis, and I didn't say anything because, well, fuck nazis. Then end.

If a society can't cope with people converting to Nazism because they read something on Facebook, I don't believe it's worthy of continuing.

Thank fucking god. These tech companies were complicit in an incompetent but serious insurrection attempt. Better late than never, but they must have known things were going to get bad. The right and the associated white supremists have far too much freedom to spread disinformation, racism and hatred. I'm sure we'll see free speech absolutists in arms about this, but today is a good day for democracy.

And herein lies the danger behind scurrilous invocation of terms like “insurrection” and “coup”.

It’s an attempted justification for the “cleansing” that’s already well underway on Twitter today, and will continue unabated for as long as the majority is silent while the radicals cheer it on.

While a small minority loudly yell ”good riddance” the rest of us wonder what happens next time we write something wrong.

Just incase you're not trolling, there were people carrying zip tie cuffs and armed with guns in the rotunda. Several doors were barricaded by the Secret Service and defended at gunpoint. At least two IEDs were found (one in the DNC offices, another in the RNC), and 5 people died. Stop making it less than it actually was.

what about all the calls for destruction and support of violent "protests" over the past year from the other side, or does that not count because it is the side you agree with?
