Neat! I added the top level RSS [1] to The Old Reader [2] and it pulled up just fine (validation), the title shows up as "xfer" by default but otherwise works fine for this reader. [1] http://freshcode.club/projects.rss [2] https://theoldreader.com

NewsBlur doesn't complain that anything is wrong, but it will skip specific items that do not validate - so it all looks dandy, but it misses updates.

Until I've read this comment I didn't even realise there was a scrollbar and dismissed the page as just another fancy looking landing page. /shrug

I just submitted the Algolia OSS alternative I’m working on to the list: https://github.com/typesense/typesense

I’ll report back on how much traffic this brings.

So far awesomeopensource.com has brought the most traffic among all the directories mentioned in this thread.

Also kind of ironic to show a big picture of an iPhone prominently on the frontpage. You can't even install your own software on it without rooting it or getting a devkit. Perhaps showing a pinephone or a Librem 5 would be more fitting.

Not only that, but also a Mac, both of them featuring only propietary software. The idea is great, the design should be redone IMO.

Brave allows you to sell your time/attention by showing you ads and giving you money for it. You can earn funds in their cryptocoin. Chromium, of course, does not have ads.

And a browser extension that suggests open-source alternatives based on the current page's URL: https://github.com/nileshtrivedi/better

It also allows you to submit new recommendations via the extension itself which submits a pull request to its GitHub project.

What's interesting is that: the extension lets you subscribe to multiple sources for recommendations (much like adblocking filters). This means that curation of alternatives can be done by people YOU trust and could incorporate criteria other than license: Ethical, Low-priced, Locally produced, Sustainable etc.
