1. Don't make people scroll one-page to actually see the software list/cards
2. My first reaction is to find the search text box which is not easy to locate. Make it prominent, front and in centre.

#4Nope. Most alternatives like services miss on a very important point. Alternatives do not have the same features and there should be a thorough comparison for end users not to waste their time.

#5alternativeto.net has a better database and a better interface, imo. You search for the software you want an alternative to, then choose your platform and license, and get a list of alternatives sorted by popularity. For instance, look up Altium (electronic schematic/PCB CAD package), and it shows results like KiCAD (open source, free), Eagle (very proprietary), LibrePCB (new open source project), Schematics.com (web-based). It even has entries for program features and description, so you can see what makes a program or service an alternative.

#6Ironically, the homepage pulls the list of featured productions by querying a Google Docs spreadsheet using spreadsimple.com, neither of which are open source.

#7I've recently tried 10 or so schematic capture programs from Ubuntu repository and my experience was very bad. Designing single transistor amplifier was almost impossible in most of them. Ridiculous ui, crashes, simple things like changing resistor value and seeing change required 10s of clicks. I ended up designing scheme in caneda, then I made a screenshot and exported netlist. Then I made simple app in lazarus where I put image in the window and added panels atop of each element, when I scrolled mouse above panel it changed that value in netlist by 1% and instantly run netlist in spice and rendered transient chart. No clicking, no switching modes, no dialogs. In hour or so I had amplifier tuned. Doing this in any of those existing programs would take me a month.

#8I saw n8n in the list, but it is not really open source [0]. Even on the Github repo they don't advertise themselves as Open Source, but rather "Free and open fair-code" [1]

Also kind of ironic to show a big picture of an iPhone prominently on the frontpage. You can't even install your own software on it without rooting it or getting a devkit.
Perhaps showing a pinephone or a Librem 5 would be more fitting.

Also, the screen behind it features MacOS. Which, needless to say, is also hostile to free software.
