If you are going to read one really old book, please consider making it Michele de Montaigne's "Essays." It's amazing and will change the way you look at life. Then Shakespeare.
Blogs can also be really useful in a way that books cannot, because books have all sorts of limitations (there are lots of really great essays that will never be collected into books, books take a long time to go to print, books require an audience of a certain size to survive, books don't come with built-in communities or followups, etc). The trick is to avoid stuffing your face with blog junk food ("latest startup that no one will know about in 2 years") and stick to the good stuff. There is also less good stuff to go around, which makes it easier ;)
