Maybe I am misunderstanding something, but I feel this could be a major privacy negative if this means all platforms require identification verification (i.e all sites with an account require a cell phone number or address etc.). Currently, I can post to reddit or hackernews without my profile saying who I am or who I work for. Of course anonymity provides an environment prone to misinformation and exploitation, at t…

It's been strange seeing internet safety advice shift so far away from "never use your real name online"

Yep, especially when the reason is "incase the state needs to prosecute you for what you post".

After this year everyone should be worried about what the future government turns into after the talk of violent overthrow of the legitimate vote.

These seem all very different critiques. The Nick Kristof article is based on the work of Laila Mickelwait, who has for the last couple of years worked tirelessly on her campaign to shutdown Pornhub. I twas her who has surfaced all the victims in the article. Though I doubt she will succeed now, she is very clear that the end-goal is not to monitor Pornhub, but to criminally charge it's owners. This is because a crim…

And a very quick google search confirmed what I suspected: she works for a christian organization. I thought that we had effectively neutered the religious right.

> Many species, including higher mammals, frequently engage in infanticide as part of their quest to perpetuate their genes, so maybe let's all try to do a bit better than the default of the natural world Infanticide is conducted routinely in human societies in the form of abortion. Even though, abortion IS the right choice.

It is a completely different infanticide, even if you give it this name.

The result is the same.

I don't have any sympathy for Pornhub here. Their entire business is built on stolen content uploaded by anonymous users, and it wasn't until they hollowed out the rest of the industry through theft that they started looking beyond it. I would go so far as to say that the reason Pornhub and other tube sites haven't taken problems like child porn and revenge porn seriously is because doing so would undermine the found…

Stealing is the #1 growth-hack.

True. It has worked amazingly well for China. 250 million brought out of poverty along the way...

The result is not the same either. The described infanticide serves a goal of undoing other gene’s reproduction. Abortion is a smarter form of not spending resources on a weak/dead-end offspring (or just throwing it out of nest), if you want these analogies.

Would you condone the post-birth infanticide of a weak/dead-end offspring as a smarter form of not spending resource someone probably does not have ?

Because anyone interested enough in this topic to do any cursory research -- as opposed to just being an insufferable fedora on the internet -- will realize it's not limited to just one company.

Neither is it in construction.

Now do you have any numbers to justify that it's, for example, more common than in construction work?

Why is one more justifiable than the other?

Individual humans are not directly demeaned and violated by copying TV shows. They are by non-consensual porn. I personally believe strongly that porn demeans, dehumanizes, and violates the people in it, even when it's consensual (and my understanding is that consensuality and non-abusive working conditions are much rarer than most porn consumers think). I realize that opinion would be quite unpopular around here.

Hmm. "Non-consensual porn" has nothing at all to do with the question being asked.
