The same reason people pay the Apple premium for anything else. It's the brand, the aesthetic, the ecosystem, and the signaling.

This Apple-blinkers comment is telling, and refreshingly honest. I'm sure there are other brands with that sort of attachment, but none that exemplify the phenomenon more.
