I released iTerm2 version 3.4.0 this morning with Big Sur support. Please update because 3.3 has various issues with it.
I just ran "Check for Updates" and it gave me this remarkable message: "iTerm2 3.1.7 is currently the newest version available. (You are currently running version 3.3.12.)" Wat?

#733Just want to put here that if you're using a Mac and haven't tried Safari recently, you're missing out. A few things: - Battery life is fantastic compared to Chrome/FF - Privacy seems to be top-notch - The tab ordering situation is now chrome-like (my biggest gripe in older versions of safari) - Experimental features are 1 click away, easily enable/disable WebGL2 - Support for the WebExtensions standard means addons…
> - Actually decent dev tools (used to be terrible) As a daily user of Safari, I can't let you say that. The devtools suck. The network tools suck (why is it so hard to find the request payload??), the elements tools suck, there are basically no extensions (React, Redux, etc.). They are just horrible. As much as I try to use only Safari, I still fallback on Firefox Dev when I need some real devtools. I use it for the…

#734Is there a way to get those insane UI paddings smaller? I'm fine with the new styling except for that, but it's a big spoiler. Apple UI used to be remarkably space-economical until Big Sur.
Re: macOS Big Sur
#735Earlier quoted context omitted.
A huge step forward into Apple’s prison complex maybe. I’ll wait to use ARM on a desktop computer until an OS/platform with more freedom and a much better UI commonly runs on ARM. That will be Windows.
> That will be Windows. The only operating system left that you still have to pay for and get third-party ads anyway, with ""telemetry"" you cannot permanently disable and an inconsistent Escheresque nightmare of a UI.
Meanwhile nobody can run any apps on their Macs right now because of Apple’s telemetry. Enjoy that!

#736PSA: Big Sur forgets where apps' windows are when plugging back into an external display https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/651131?answerId=64... https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/jt0gjk/big_sur_forge... I've been on the public beta of Big Sur for months (and issued Feedback Assistant bug reports on this). As of 11.0.1, there's still a dealbreaker bug for people who use external monitors. If you unplug a…
If you're a stickler for keeping your windows neat and orderly like I am, you may want to check out Yabai (+ skhd): https://github.com/koekeishiya/yabai I used to use BetterTouchTool and Stay to do this, but after a co-worker tipped me off on yabai+skhd, I've been extremely pleased and rarely have to think about window placement (took me a while to get the config "just right", of course). I haven't tried it on Big Su…

#739My Early 2013 MacBook Pro 15 just old enough to not get this update.
Once your Apple Silicon Mac is too old to receive an update, you can't just install anything else on it because it's boot process is completely locked down.
I presume the official Apple answer is “trade it in and we’ll recycle it for you”. I think this is probably a win in environmental terms, and a loss in individual economics terms.
