Is geekbench accurate at comparing across different architectures?
If anything, I feel like many tests are based on x86 special instructions like AES, which does not directly translate to other tasks. But for most of the tasks I think it wouldn't be possible that the processor are only better at those and performance of most program should correlate with geekbench score.

I think it’s because youtubers like linustech etc are the type of people who review these laptops, they live in their bubble that only “real” professionals are those who edit videos.

I’ll take a stab at the problem: an “actual professional” in this context is someone who makes their money by using the computer.
That does include practically every white collar occupation at this point.

Yeah, the Mac Pro supports up to 1.5TB of DRAM (vs. 16GB), it's got a bunch of slots and discrete GPUs, and it can run Windows and Windows VMs. I hope it doesn't end up as an orphan system like the 2013 "trash can" Mac Pro, which was an interesting system that got zero upgrades. Yeah I had almost the same configuration (2tb/32gb/2.4 ghz). I’m literally getting the new Air for half of what I’m selling it for.
You guys must have some generic or Apple specific workflows since you are confident that the software is already supported.

The point is not a professional using a computer, it's a professional computer user - someone who doesn't just use a computer to do their work, but someone for whom the limits of the computer are the limits of the work they can do.

Current (and presumably future) macOS does this and you can’t turn it off, except with Little Snitch. New APIs in macOS 11 means that Little Snitch will no longer be able to block OS processes, so it will require external network filtering hardware.
I’ll likely end up with Linux on the 16”, and use the new one for things that are not secret/private.
