I’m building a brand new team from the ground up and I’m looking for strong mid to sr level software engineers who want to work on projects and teams that deliver services at a global scale! You would be part of a tier 1 team, building applications and services used by all AWS customers!

We have positions for Sys Devs and Software development engineers at all levels. Contact me via email if you have any additional questions or are interested in the role. We are all currently remote until June and would then require colo in virgina offices.

Hey SpaceX Steve!

I actually sent in an application last week for one of the roles listed. Totally agree it's a great time, you folks have a lot of of very cool things going on.

I do have two related questions. Just based on the listings I took a look at last week and what's here now, the engineering orgs at least seem relatively flat. Would you say that's true or is it just whats on the roster? Second question is if 'Senior' means anyting specific at SpaceX or is it just intended to communicate expectations around experience/skills?

Howdy, I'm Steve too ;) Thanks for the insights ... I have to say that list is one of the coolest "job boards" I've ever seen. Rocket (Computer) Science! There are a couple I'd apply to but I'm in a position where I have to work remotely for at least the near term.

That's understandable given the current state of things. If and when you are able to relocate, please don't hesitate to apply.

If by flat you mean that we don't have a bunch of bureaucratic hierarchy, that's true. We have Engineer 1, 2, and Senior on the individual contributor line, and Lead, Manager, Sr. Manager, Director, and Sr. Director on the personnel management line. It could probably be simplified further without losing scope of responsibility information. Right now we have about 50 individual contributors and 11 personnel managers. Keeping a ratio of 5 individual contributors or less per manager makes it possible to have real career development conversations regularly.

Senior Engineer carries high expectations around scope, impact, and autonomy. In other words, Seniors have a lot of responsibility, are expected to move mountains regularly, and operate with relatively little direction.
