I switched to Affinity completely, and I also slowly see some people in the industry change. And for video, DaVinci Resolve. There might be cases were you’re tied to CS, but the bulk of the work can be done in these apps.
There is nothing standing in their way to do the same with their software in a couple of years.

CS3 was in 2007. It's not like we're talking about an IBM 709 here. It's probably a Core 2 Duo or a Clovertown Xeon. Give me a break. When producing digital goods you never want to be in a position where honest people who want to pay you money will get a better customer experience by going through thepiratebay.
I seriously think this was the last straw for Adobe and I. I just wanted to install an older version of an app (that I've paid for!) on an older computer. I've literally spent thousands of dollars on software that I can no longer use for no reason other than that they will no longer allow me to. I dug out my old Palm Visor Platinum (released in 2000) a few months ago. Works perfectly. I was even able to find a large collection of apps and transfer to it using the handspring sync program which runs ok in compatibility mode on Win10. It uses AAA cells so battery is never a problem. I've also switched to Affinity back in March, because of the fact that Creative Cloud was becoming too expensive for me and my crappy 3rd world income.
