Are posts like this used to "boost" twitter accounts? seems like it is.

Yeah the author created this post pointing to his own tweet saying thank you in relation to a different post already on HN.

It is a problem that people who maintain free extensions with lots of users can get big payoffs from selling those extensions to unscrupulous buyers, and the economic incentives heavily favor that eventual outcome. Thanking people who don't give in isn't enough to solve the problem.

How is that different than someone "boosting" their own blog posts? Twitter seems like this person's medium of delivery for their content.

Doesn’t seem like the twitter OP is selling or promoting anything? And even if he did, who cares.

As other commenters pointed out, I use Twitter to share my thoughts like how others publish on their blogs.

People can follow me if they'd like, but I wouldn't know anyway because I've made tools specifically to hide followers/likes/vanity metrics on social media (https://hidelikes.com/).
