This was the first question that occurred to me. Just a couple of days ago I needed to buy another iphone USB-lightning cable. If you want to get a sense of just how broken Amazon reviews are, try searching for one of these. It's a nightmare minefield of 4.7+ rated products that have these highly dubious 5 star ratings, but with a telltale sizeable chunk of recent 1 star reviews.[1] So I ended up having to also check…

I've taken to running all my amazon purchases through fakespot dot com first. It's highly discouraging.

I love the idea, I once had the same idea and never knew how to really turn it into a project. Congrats!

First thing I would request as a feature is a way to be notified when new durable products are added.

Another feedback: the name did not catch my memory yet. After going to the site I could not even remember the name of it when I wanted to go back once the tab was closed. Maybe show the website title in big letters or go fo a different name? (durable-products.com is available and maybe good SEO wise for example). AND we also know that "buy for life" will only match a very few products (like pans, but not socks most probably), durable might be more accurate.

Final feedback: I understand it's not a commercial project, but why not? I think you can totally create affiliate links while still maintaining a high level of trust and independence. Plus the fact that many times I searched on your site where to buy the products. I had to open a new tab and google them :)

Great idea! Congrats on shipping, that's the hardest part! Site looks great. Just something I noticed, images from the blog took a bit to load, and they could be optimized (will also save you bandwidth). I recommend doing this for all images though. Search for tinyjpg or similar free sites, it will compress the images without losing much on quality.

Edit: there are some great libraries to compress images too. e.g. https://github.com/semiromid/compress-images

I love the idea, but the site needs some more work. For example, on an iPhone with chrome I’m unable to actually search for anything (there is no “search” button on the keyboard on the search bar. I can enter text but it just sits there. Possibly incorrect annotations on the widget?).
