#6It's never been about protecting people, it's about power. What is the source of most power? Knowledge. Knowledge about anything and everything. It's unimaginable what you could do with access to every conversation ever had, retroactively at your fingertips.
Power is neutral, it's users are not. We have already seen the dangerous precedent China has set with it's all-encompassing surveillance and human-rights violations.

#7This is a nice reminder that the EU isn’t some benevolent defender of human rights; it’s a surveillance state bureaucracy like all the others. They’ve done a spectacular job at branding, I’ll give them that.

I left the UK specifically because of the UK government trying to mess with encryption in a very stupid way (amongst other things), with an act of Parliament that violated EU law: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Investigatory_Powers_Act_201...
