Microsoft wouldn't make back the purchase price doing anything with OpenAI's IP that they can't do now.

It would be a damn valuable acqui-hire though. I think the deepmind-acquisition comparison grandparent post makes is very apt.

It won't be on AWS or GCP. That's pretty important to businesses already using cloud and wanting to "add AI" to their product offerings.

Huggingface or an academic effort could also improve the efficiency of few/one shot learning, or simply a crowdsourced model build seems within reach.
I guess to run the model you need a large machine too.
