Wasn’t he saying 5 years ago that it was wrong to appoint in the entire year prior to the election and change over?

It’s not even worth pointing out and discussing R historical context. Winning and power are the only motivators. Everything, -everything- else is on the table to those ends.

No, darkness falls when people parrot idiotic phrases like that one.

At the time, he said "I believe the overwhelming view of the Republican Conference in the Senate is that this nomination should not be filled, this vacancy should not be filled by this lame duck president". His other concern was were the parties reversed (a GOP president and a Democrat-controlled Senate), the Democrats would not allow a nomination to proceed in such a circumstance. This concern was based on multiple factors, notably prior comments made by Senator Biden to that effect.

In this case, not only are the Senate and Presidency both GOP, but Trump is not a lame duck president. It appears disingenuous for pundits and media talkers to even make such a comparison.

Even if Trump WERE a lame duck, Mcconnell's opinions may have been altered after the Democrats attempted to smear their prior nominee with allegations of rape and gang-rape. It is safe to assume that one would consider any prior niceties to be off the table after that, no matter the party.

Its like the meme of sitting in a burning room and saying I'm fine. We are not fine. We are not good at all. We have moved so far to the right that the center of 25 years past is now seen as extremist left.
