Seems like you're presuming too much strategic thinking on the part of our political leadership.

I think it's presumptive to assume that the people who are paraded around for the circus that is politics are the strategic leadership.

It would have been much cheaper to buy off the Hussein family, and play them against the Iranians if cheap oil was the objective.

Some might argue that that wasn't even the objective and that the take down of adversaries was only a narrative created to justify the start of these wars.
