#23What is the product offering of Progress? Quickly went through the website.. not sure, but it sounds more like smoke and mirrors..
I agree with this sentiment. The acquirer seems to be one of this enterprise companies that nobody hears about.

#24It's confirmed then. Absolutely nobody wants to buy Puppet. Anyone know why that fell through?

#25What’s the track record of Progress buying companies? Is it a case of Oracle or IBM sucking the life out of them due to lack of investment, and living off the installed base? Or something more positive?

#26What's a good alternative to Chef?

Again, only casual observer, so my impression may be overly negative.

Depends on the growth rate. If it’s flat growth, it’s not cheap at all.
https://www.geekwire.com/2020/chef-hits-key-financial-milest... “100% growth in incremental recurring revenue” doesn’t say much if they are churning a lot of existing customers. (That they chose such a double-speak revenue number perhaps says a lot). My impression was that DevOps software like this is very hard to pull out once you’ve embedded it in the org. Am I missing something?
I worked in a couple places which used Chef and paid for 1-2 years but eventually terminated the commercial relationship.
