(The comment had suggested that his killer was likely brought from Nigeria.) The "ban on international travel" is a rather pertinent part of that question, oddly enough. The kind of people that are capable of magicking someone across two closed borders and an entire ocean tend to not lack contacts in either country.

Having criminal contacts in both countries doesn't necessarily mean somebody trusts their criminal compatriots in both countries. Particularly when you're talking about a crime that's more severe (murder) than what they're normally trusting somebody with (smuggling perhaps.) I'd guess there are a lot of informants in organized crime. It seems the sort of business where the least trusting survive the longest.

If somebody took the risk to find a contract killer once and didn't get caught, it makes sense to me that they'd try to avoid taking the risk a second time by using the same killer.

You keep on repeating that OPs comment was political or ideological, yet OP didn't mention politics nor religion nor ideology.

They simply stated that Bangladesh has issues with extremists using these kind of tactics. They didn't say what kind of extremists, and since I don't know a whole lot about Bangladesh, I frankly don't have a clue.

You're more than welcome to point that Bangladesh doesn't have these kind of issues, or that the victim wasn't much related to Bangladesh. That's an interesting counterpoint, much more so than seeing things that aren't there.

If you read the news coverage it's extremely clear why they think they have video of the suspect (and it's not clairvoyance). The first few moments of the attack were captured in surveillance footage.

They must have changed the linked article. I don't see that anywhere (nor in the video). Just that they were in the elevator together.

Saudi Arabia carried out an extrajudicial killing in a small, neighboring state. This was carried out in the US. And for all intents and purposes could be considered an act of war against a state that has an unlimited war chest.

This mostly happens to people who fail to pay their debt. Victim's stance on fairness of bargain mostly differs from the one of the creditors, but unfortunately that doesn't help them being less dead or dismembered. Debt doesn't have to be purely financial, but most often has to do with money. It could be completely delusional, eg. "Business you started robbed me of $$$ which would be mine if you did not. Therefore you owe me triple the value of all your assets." I'm not implying this is what happened in this particular case. It is horrible these things happen.

This is off on a little bit of a tangent, but there is an interesting point to be made, I think. I was on a jury once. Not a murder case, mind you, but the principle is the same. There was a detective from the local law enforcement agency that investigated the case, and he testified on the stand about the case…

I see your point...but I think the NYPD does not send their Barney Fife to this particular crime.

Probably not. There is most likely another door once the elevator opens, that also require some sort of key.
