Dear HNers, I'm a senior (~25y career) SWE currently at a FAANG. Life is good, but my comp is only going up slowly and gradually.

On the other hand, I've always been interested in finance. I'm a retail investor, and I use my SWE superpowers to automate and analyse my investments to some extent. But I never pursued this as a career, e.g. never worked at a bank or a hedge fund, despite living in a major international finance/banking hub.

I'm considering getting a Master's in Finance (while I continue to work), mainly based on this itch that never goes away. I don't know what "the industry" looks like beyond SWE, where I've spent all of my professional career.

The question: what kind of job, role or organisation would be uniquely suited for a senior SWE with a Master's in Finance? What kind of job can I do better that anyone with a Master's in Finance because I'm also a senior SWE? Interested beyond fintech, which is engineering-within-finance; open to pure-finance roles that can benefit from SWE.

As a secondary question, I'm in the low-to-mid-six-figures comp range. How do I take the leap to the next category, i.e. seven figures? What kind of jobs / roles / industries offer this kind of comp to someone with my profile?
