#462I actually wouldn't mind if the URL bar was replaced with a breadcrumb bar on some sites, like news and forums. Imagine something like Example.com > Worldnews > 2020 > 06 > 14 > Big aquatic monster spotted outside of Tokyo or forum.example.com > Sport > Football > Spain > Real Madrid It could then work like in Explorer in Windows 10, where you can press one of the breadcrumb separators and see a menu with siblings, o…
> I actually wouldn't mind if the URL bar was replaced with a breadcrumb bar on some sites ... Which sites? Anyway, almost everyone else would mind. Especially if there was no option to revert to normal behaviour. > It could then work like in Explorer in Windows 10, ... That sounds like the worst of both worlds. If people want Explorer in Windows 10 behaviour - can't they just run Explorer in Windows 10? If people wa…

Chrome is the new IE. Some sites don’t work (well) with others browsers, so people are annoyed when the browser they are forced to use does stupid things.
Before Edge came out, I always preferred IE11 over Chrome (on machines that only had those two installed), because IE11 kept the legacy "must compete with Netscape" features like decent contentEditable context menus. And websites that didn't work in IE11 generally weren't worth using anyway. Now… well, IE11 doesn't even support ES6 properly, and good sites have started relying on that, and Edge is just evil Chrome –…
...and the malwarey desktop program is also Chrome.

#466Suppose there never was an URL you could share. Suppose you always had to tell people to 'Google it' Suppose 'I feel lucky' was always the default, and the result was sold to the highest bidder.

To try and think of an upside for the user, it might help people detect phishing by making the domain name more prominent. I've seen phishing sites like support.google.com.8n.cn where the right side (the most important) just disappears into the /path. Though this attack is even more brilliant on mobile devices that truncate the right hand side and leave with you with "support.google.com...". Aside, I encourage fellow…
If they want the domain to be more prominent, they could also just make it... more prominent. Highlight it more and separate it.

It's $current_year is never a good excuse. $people not knowing stuff should not mean that everyone should get dumber to match $people.
URLs are confusing though. I am a veteran URL user and I learned something about them from this thread. Hiding them isn't necessarily better but many replies here seem to be denying that they are imperfect.
