Google does have an amazing access to data on how 80 - 90% of users are using the Internet, for many Google is the entry point for their Internet experience. Maybe their data is telling them that the URL bar is basically unused?

That's probably because most advanced users turn off all telemetry when possible. And http://localhost is probably ignored in statistics anyway.

I mostly leave telemetry on in products I care about specifically so that my advanced use cases get logged.

I increasingly find myself using other search engines when looking up political contents. Google's seems to be censored, or wheigthed in a way that gives it heavy political bias. I wish they would just give good search results, like they used to. Would be a lot less hassle.

That's the filter-bubble you're seeing. It's showing you things it thinks you'll engage with, and hiding things it thinks you won't, and the algorithm is too stupid to do that properly but they use it anyway.

I remember this being the magical thing together with less wasted vertical space that made me switch to Chrome back in the day, it was (and still is) so simple! Always had the search field taking up precious space in Firefox but never really using it because it was a different mental route, like this is smart but why am I not using it?

I think it is down to having to consciously decide to search before starting to type instead of just start typing, if you couldn't remember the URL just misspell it and search and it works, a more specific page throw in another word and you get the correct page as a search result essentially every time.

This is not a common usage of the term SJW. The term SJW was already used to dismiss issues of race or gender; this feels like a drive-by version, dismissing those concerns when they're not even relevant to the topic.

I moved back to Firefox last year and haven't had any reason to switch back to Chrome. FF has been plenty performant and even if was few microseconds slower than Chrome, I will still stick with it because it's in our collective interest to keep the competition alive. This ridiculous decision by Google just made my resolve stronger.

Honestly at this point I honestly have no idea why a wast majority of people are still choosing to support google's browser.

Google is an ad-company and will do everything in its power to change the web to fit their business. You the user don't matter anymore.
