I wonder if it's being A/B tested. I still see the URL, and can click on it from the little "i" icon at the top left. Android, Chrome, USA. Surely a terrible idea though. AMP already has a PR problem.

A/B testing whether or not people have finally gotten tired of fighting for the web. Once they can go for a few months without anybody speaking up, they'll move on to further stages.
It's illegal to do that in the EU, so probably only affects non-EU terretories.
Why can't they just give a simple setting which lets users disable AMP? This is the most annoying about being forced to use AMP.

How do you get AMP pages? Do they appear in Google search results when you look stuff up on a mobile phone?
AMP results are annoying enough on mobile that I switched my default search engine to duckduckgo on my phone.
Search engines are too important to leave in the hands of one company. Especially a company that, though it was founded as a search engine company, has that search engine as only a tiny part of its people-tracking machine.
