Yes, but most people don't like their job, and don't want to be productive in it. On HN, we have a lot of passionate people, but as soon as I go into the corporate world or the administrations, the feedback people give changes a lot.

Check again.
The ratio is much stronger pro work-from-home in the 45-64 age ranges.
But my initial guess would be that the older survey participants were more IT affine, but it's hard to judge with the sparse details.

That is a VERY rough (actually false) sentance, considering they have only surveyed ~500 Americans out of 205'950'000+ population at working age.

#17Sadly many tech workers can barely afford more than shared accommodation or tiny apartments. Wondering that is the half that would rather waste away in crammed offices, long commute hours and lack of privacy from flatmates.
Because they're living in expensive places. If you don't need to live where you work you can find cheaper places to live.

#19No wonder given that the daily commute is both mentally and physically taxing for most.
I've been working remotely since 2015 and have already decided to settle in a perhaps less attractive, but definitely cheaper neighbourhood so that I could have some office space in the house.
In the long run it's probably going to cost as much as the sum total of fuel and vehicles used over the years, but the main benefit is not having to go over this stressful routine of negotiating my place in a stream of cars.

Children probably. Don't get me wrong, I love being home and spending time with the family more, it's really the best part of this experience for me. But there's no way I'd be able to be as productive as expected under normal circumstances. I'm lucky if I get 4 hours in.
2 kids at home. I am dying to get into my office and work. The interruptions are just insane. I don't think I'll be a lot more productive in the office but I sure as hell will be a lot less stressed. Also my office is very quiet with almost zero interruptions.
