Oddly enough, I don’t have any of those issues anymore. Screen locking tends to just work these days. What doesn’t work well anymore is user switching: when I switch virtual consoles to either another user or the gdm screen the keyboard stops registering and the mouse gets slower and slower until it stops completely.
