I don't know where you are located, but beef and fish was never an issue here. Chicken and pork sold out, but have been getting restocked every other day.

I am not saying your situation is like this, but I know many people that say "I dont make enough money to save" but then if you look at their daily life they eat out often, stop a Starbucks routinely, have the latest iPhone, have subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and a 100 Channel TV Line up, have massive credit card debit from buying things they did not need, etc etc etc
Again you may actually be in a bad spot financially and if you are I hope you get out of it soon, but I know many many many many people that simply can not budget properly, and even when they make more income their "needs" raise to consume that extra income about 2 seconds after they get the increase

This doesn't make any sense, I have been able to find everything, except the toilet paper, for two weeks now. This is the most idiotic thing, why can't someone make a public announcement not to hoard toilet paper, of all things?

I think "Fox News" is being used here as code for right-wing propaganda, masquerading as journalism.
And that the type of right-wing propaganda is that associated with the word "scrounger" in the UK, which is code for "poverty isn't real, it's fakers and stupid people wasting their copious money, people make themselves poor (so we don't have to care)".
Represented in this case by someone saying poor people buy new cars, when the reality is poor people buy extremely cheap second hand cars, and cannot afford new cars. And even that is out of a sense of necessity - in many places in the UK you need a car to get to work.
Related right-wing propaganda in the UK says that poor people have loads of money but pretend they don't, and spend it stupidly on alcohol, cigarettes and luxury holidays, and that any financial worries or, say, hunger, is their own fault. While many people do spend occasionally on those things, many poor people in the UK (who I know) spend nothing on any of those things, and couldn't afford it if they wanted to; so it is galling to see it implied in newspaper stories regularly. Not so much of that at the moment though.
TLDR "Fox News propaganda" is code for "poor people aren't really poor, so we don't have to care".

You're literally commenting on an article called "Eat for $1.50 per day". If you can't, over years of plenty, build up a few weeks reserve then we're having a different discussion because a mere broken bone or car battery failure will then wipe out your independence. And yes there are people in that situation. But most people are a little beyond that. And even those WAY beyond that are helpless and dependent on rushed government solutions and the preparedness of others right now.
