Who will pay for that?

A cop already carries thousands of dollars worth of equipment. For example you modify the police radio to transmit to nearby vehicles.

Ignoring control issues, this assumes infinite space at destination: you are still blanketing the road with cars, just in a coordinated manner.

There usually is “enough” space on the road, when you account for all the unused space on the road in the opposite flow direction to rush-hour traffic. Cars just need to quickly take you to work, then slowly drive back the other way. In other words, this will generate pointless traffic - unless your system has strictly unidirectional flows at any given time, you have doubled the problem in an attempt to eliminate it (plus incidentally doubled the energy consumption, which translates to cost).

Who would have thought that it might be tricky to replicate the capabilities of an organism exquisitely designed by evolution over more than 10 million years to dash through the jungle canopy with break neck speed, split second coordination and decision making?

Why would they do that? That footage might include their own customers.

Eventually, money. You have to imagine that info about dangerous drivers would be tremendously valuable to insurance companies as well, if it could be shown to predict crashes.

Bad weather conditions will favour robots over humans because the robot drivers have sensors that can penetrate fog and rain whereas humans have to rely on mk1 eyeballs that can't. Can you link to some of these sensors? As far as I know, anyone who knows what they’re doing is using Lidar at the moment which has significant difficulties with weather.

Radar, ultrasonic.

Ultrasound works well up close for detecting a potential collision.

Tesla will not use lidar apparently. They'll use cameras, radar and ultrasonic.

In theory you could have all four.
