#3I have actually watched a video of a public hearing on the issue that Louis Rossmann posted. It was essentially the politicians asking "why would we not want to pass this law?" and the opposing side replying "we will send you all the materials later."
It is baffling that someone would vote "no" in such a context.

#5Just ask Apple why they tell people their phone is "not repairable" and then they confiscate the phone from the customer to sell them a "factory refurbished" phone at a discount. Where does the confiscated phone go? It gets repaired and sold as a "factory refurbished" phone. This would be fine except that any data that you had on your phone that was not backed up YOU LOSE. So Apple will repair YOUR phone for SOMEONE ELSE, just not for YOU.

Also they prefer to spin the most blatant lies in private. You know things like, "I can tell you Senator, that the NSA strongly believes that third party repair is sponsored by Russian Hackers". And, " Madam Senator,once a single phone is compromised, being as it attached to the entire internet, it will compromise THE ENTIRE INTERNET".
