That has nothing to do with it. The problem with the customer service is not them not honouring future discounts. It was them not being good customer service, the general rule in customer service is basically try and do what ever the customer wants. The problem is the customer agreeing that they want to buy something for a given price. Then a little while later they see an opportunity to get something for free so expect customer service to bend over backwards to make them a happier customer. They were already happy with their purchase, they just want to be happy. It is bogus "customer is always right" garbage, and incredibly entitled behavior.

#161It wasn’t free. It was 10% off another product while we still had most of our return time available. A customer should not have to return your product to receive a discount a week after. It’s a massive inconvenience on both sides that could be avoided just by honoring the discount.
